Patricia Field shows M&S collection in New York

So even Marks & Spencer has dissed London to show its latest range during New York Fashion Week.  M&S’ collaboration with uber stylist Patricia Field was shown at the Art Deco, Edison Ballroom on Broadway on Sunday. The American stylist, who is reported to have signed a 5 million pound deal with the British high street store, will see her designs go on sale in the UK in approximately 200 M&S stores this October. M&S, however swapped London Fashion Week to instead show in New York, where there is no M&S store.

Key pieces included 1950’s-style, puffball dresses and a turquoise silk shift, based on the dress the actress wore in the “Baby Shower Scene” in the SATC film.

Kate Bostock, the executive director of clothing at Marks & Spencer, described the Patricia Field collection, developed with co-designer, David Dalrymple, as one of the most adventurous projects in the British high street chain’s history, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“It’s the perfect marriage. She knows her audience, we have the customers and M&S customers love Sex and the City.”

Patricia Field, 66, was nominated for an Oscar for her wardrobe for ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, and is now styling the actress, America Ferrera, for the television series, ‘Ugly Betty’.

“If I can wear the clothes, anybody can,” Field told The Daily Telegraph. “Fashion is about enjoying clothes and having fun; it’s not about age.”

The Patricia Field collection for M&S will feature 40 dresses, starting as low as £40, in sizes 8-20, as well as tights, shoes, and scarves, from £15 and graffiti-print shoppers, at £2.

The collection, made in five Marks & Spencer factories in the Far East, Turkey and India, will be available from October 16th.
