Wisconsin Man Turns Self In 13 Years After Killing Wife: Police

WALWORTH COUNTY, WI — Authorities in Walworth County say a 37-year-old man walked into the Lake Geneva Police department on Sunday, and admitted he had killed his wife 13 years ago, and that she hadn’t gone missing, as he originally told police.

According to the Lake Geneva Police Department, Keith A. Comfort, 37, of Lake Geneva, walked into the department’s service desk and asked to speak with an officer about a missing person.

Police officials said Comfort spoke with an on-duty officer, and admitted to killing his wife, Megan N. Schultz, in 2006. Megan N. Schultz was 24 at the time of her disappearance in 2006.

Authorities say Comfort got into an argument with Schultz at their apartment in Boone County, Missouri, on Aug. 4, 2006. The next day, authorities say Comfort filed a missing persons report with Columbia police after Schultz’s mother asked where she was.

According to court documents, Comfort told officers that he strangled Schultz, and later placed her dead body in a black garbage bag and threw her into a dumpster.

Police say Comfort was arrested and is now being held on a $1 million cash bond. The investigation has been turned over to Columbia Police detectives who have arrived in the City of Lake Geneva.

“The circumstances where you have someone come into a police station and accept responsibility 13 years later, yes, that is a long time in a different state,” said Boone County prosecutor Dan Knight in a FOX4KC-TV report. “That is unusual.”

According to a KMIZ-TV report, Comfort’s mother suspected her son may have killed Schultz.

“Keith could smile and put on the charm, but he was a very troubled young man,” Debra Shultz said of her son. “(He) had it down to an art of lying and smiling.”
