12 More Coronavirus Deaths In Washington; 1st In Pierce County
SEATTLE, WA — At least 12 more people have died due to complications from the new coronavirus in Washington, health officials announced Wednesday. Ten of the people who died were King County residents, while Pierce County reported its first death linked to the illness. In Southwest Washington, Clark County reported a third death.
The Department of Health added 175 cases to its statewide count Wednesday, bringing the total number of recorded illnesses to 1,187, with 67 people dead.

King County links 10 more deaths to COVID-19, including five Life Care residents:
King County public health officials reported 44 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, as the county’s death toll reached 56. King County now has 562 lab-confirmed illnesses linked to the virus.
According to faculty members at the University of Washington, Dr. Steven Schwartz, a professor of pathology at the college, was among those recently lost.
Public health officials said another five residents of the Life Care Center in Kirkland have died, and all of the deaths announced Wednesday were in patients between 60 and 90 years old. The Kirkland nursing home is connected to 35 of the deaths resulting from the outbreak.

Three King County residents have been admitted for isolation or quarantine at a motel in Kent, after being evaluated by a health professional, officials said.
The City of Shoreline announced it would open a temporary hospital on a school soccer field to help free up beds for patients at local hospitals.
Pierce County confirms first death, 56 COVID-19 cases:
According to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, a Puyallup woman in her 50s died of complications related to the virus, marking the first such death linked to COVID-19 in the county.
“She was not a number,” said Bruce Dammeier, the Pierce County Executive. “She was a beloved daughter, she was a mother, she was an incredible community volunteer and active in her daughter’s school.”
“I think it’s important that we remember that,” Dammeier said. “There’s a family that’s grieving today; there’s a community that’s grieving today.”
Health officials confirmed another dozen illnesses in the county Wednesday, for a total of 56. According to the health department, at least 1,152 Pierce County residents have been tested for the virus.
Cases have been confirmed in the following areas*: Tacoma (27), Puyallup (8), University Place (6), South Pierce County (5), Gig Harbor (3), Lakewood (3), Northeast Pierce County (2), Bonney Lake (1), East Pierce County (1).
*The list only includes cases in geographical areas with populations greater than 20,000 people.
