Update on Batista’s In-Ring Future, Nick Jackson on Omega in AEW
It was reported yesterday by Pro Wrestling Sheet that former WWE Superstar Batista may be looking to get back into the wrestling business. Batista has remained away from the ring for a number of years now in order to advance his acting career, but he has openly talked about wanting to return to wrestling for a while. He has highly hinted at the idea of wanting to face Triple H at a WrestleMania event in what would be his final pro wrestling match. When Batista returned to SmackDown for a quick Evolution reunion in October of last year, it looked like WWE would be putting Batista vs. Triple H together for the show after all. However, it now appears that All Elite Wrestling has entered the picture and wants “The Animal’s” services.
WWE and AEW are now both said to be having talks with Batista about a possible run. In an update posted earlier today by PWInsider, it was noted that the talks between Batista and WWE started last Thursday when the former world champion visited WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. However, AEW’s Chris Jericho was quick to post a photo of himself meeting up with Batista over lunch. Jericho says that he met with Batista today and had a “great discussion” together. Fans should keep in mind that Jericho is notorious for his online trolling, so it is possible that their photo was taken months ago or that the meeting had little to do with AEW. Be sure to stay tuned for additional updates on Batista’s planned return to wrestling.
During the official ticket announcement party for AEW’s Double or Nothing event last week, it was finally confirmed that Kenny Omega has signed a deal with the promotion both as a performer and as an Executive Vice President. He will now face Chris Jericho in a highly-anticipated rematch during AEW’s first show on May 25th, but Omega supposedly turned down a huge deal from WWE in order to work for AEW. When talking about Omega’s signing, fellow Elite member Nick Jackson posted some tweets defending his friend’s choice to take a chance on the new promotion rather than take the offer from WWE. Omega stated after the party that his deal with All Elite Wrestling will keep him under contract for the next four years.
We couldn’t start AEW without this man. Matt, myself, and Kenny have been trying to change wrestling for the better since 2015 when we formed The Elite. Now is the time and we couldn’t be more excited for the challenge. pic.twitter.com/rDVQKMSnAZ
