SmackDown’s Becky Lynch Wins the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble Match
The Royal Rumble match took place last night, and the women’s match was the first of the Rumble matches to take place. Thirty women from Raw, SmackDown, and even NXT all took part in the match, but who was the one to walk away with a guaranteed march at WrestleMania 35? That honor went to none other than SmackDown’s Becky Lynch. Becky entered the match at number 28 and was able to last all the way until the very end to becomes the second women’s Royal Rumble winner in history. It all came down to Lynch and Charlotte Flair, but Lynch was able to eliminate her fellow Horsewoman to get the win. The victory marks the first time that Becky Lynch has won a Royal Rumble match in her WWE career.

Becky Lynch actually kicked off the Royal Rumble pay-per-view last night by challenging Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Lynch ended up losing the title match via submission, but she surprised fans later on when she entered the Royal Rumble match. When SmackDown Superstar Lana entered the match at #28, she had trouble making it to the ring due to an injury that she received during the Royal Rumble Kickoff show. With Lana unable to compete in the match, the decision was made to have “The Man” fill in for her. Lynch eliminated the likes of Nia Jax before taking out Charlotte Flair to secure her spot in a title match during the WrestleMania 35 event in New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium this spring.

Lynch has risen in popularity over the past few months due to her strong fanbase, incredible matches, and her character. Ever since adopting the moniker “The Man,” Lynch has been established as a true top star in WWE. She regained the SmackDown Women’s Championship for a time last year, but now she has the option to pick which champion she will wrestle at WrestleMania. If Ronda Rousey and Asuka are able to keep their titles between now and the event in April, Lynch will take on one of those women during the show. Lynch does have history with both of them, so it will certainly be interesting to see which opponent she picks. For now, fans can look forward to seeing Becky Lynch in action during WWE’s biggest event of the year.
I’m going to Wrestlemania with an army behind me. Last year I was on the pre-show; this year I am the main event. pic.twitter.com/hqPCDQtUkl
