WWE SmackDown Live Results (08/21): SummerSlam Fallout Show

Tonight’s SummerSlam Fallout Episode of SmackDown Live opens up from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York as Tom Phillips welcomes us to this special edition of the show. He is joined by Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.
We go right to the ring and out comes The Miz and Maryse. Greg Hamilton does the introductions. We see footage of Maryse’s interference in the win of The Miz over Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam.
The Miz stands somberly in the ring with his head bowed as the crowd chants for Daniel Bryan and he says that he was able to feel that in a way that he never felt it before, and two nights ago at SummerSlam, something happened. The Miz then says that now he has a family to think about and he’s gonna make this really short. The Miz then says that with a heavy heart and the utmost sadness – he’s real choked up and Maryse hugs him before he continues – he officially announces his retirement, to the utter joy of the crowd in Brooklyn.

The Miz continues as he says his retirement, that is, from ever facing Daniel Bryan again. The Miz then says you can yes all you want, but the eight-year saga of The Miz and Daniel Bryan has come to a satisfying conclusion because he did exactly what he said he was going to do by beating Bryan in front of a sold-out Barclay’s Center. The Miz then says don’t get him wrong, Bryan gave him everything he had, he punched him a hundred times, but a hundred Bryan punches don’t amount to one Miz punch.
The Miz then says you’re looking at the hardest punch in WWE, and he did exactly what Bryan said he was going to do to him, except when he did it, he pinned him 1-2-3 in front of his gorgeous, sexy wife Maryse. The Miz then says that was Sunday, it’s now time to start his new life, a life where he’s gonna watch the fifth episode of Miz and Mrs. right after SmackDown right here on The USA Network.
Daniel Bryan makes his way down to the ring. He has one word for The Miz – Coward. Bryan then says it over and over as Miz sputters a reaction out and hides behind his wife. The A-Lister then says that the record books will say he won and he’s superior in every single way, and Bryan has to live with never beating him, never being better than him, and never having a chance to fight him again. Bryan tells him to shut up for once in his life, and his victory is another lie in his career like the lights he’s under and the makeup he’s wearing.
Bryan then says that he said he would punch The Miz in the face and he did so take him for his word when he says that he is gonna expose The Miz for what he really is, a wannabe Hollywood star cosplaying as a wrestler, and he’s not going to be able to retire yet, because. Maryse cuts him off and tells him to retire and change his name to Daniel Bella already.

Brie Bella makes her way down to the ring. She charges right past bryan and punches The Miz in the face. She’s beating The A-Lister down and bryan joins her, punching The Miz clean out of the ring. Bryan and Brie stand tall and Bryan points out that his wife has a sweet punch. Plus, he just talked to General Manager Paige and they have a match at Hell in a Cell, but it’s not Bryan vs. The Miz, it’s a Mixed Tag Team Match with their wives included. The Miz and Maryse freak out and head backstage as Bryan leads a “yes” chant.
Commentary hypes up some fallout from SummerSlam, including a no disqualification rematch between The New Day and The Bludgeon Brothers for The SmackDown Tag Team Titles.
We cut to Jeff Hardy being weird and hissing like a cat backstage and we go to a commercial break.

Back from the commercial break and The Miz & Maryse are irate and looking for General Manager Paige backstage when they roll up on her.
The Miz asks if this is how she treats the stars of The USA Network and he doesn’t get it, but Paige is somehow a much worse General Manager than Daniel Bryan is. General Manager Paige offers a counterpoint that The Miz got punched in the face by Brie Bella, the tag match stays, and it will be awesome.
Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton: We see some replays of Orton’s previous attacks on Jeff. The opening bell sounds and Orton starts off strong, backing Jeff into the corner with strikes. Jeff fights back and goes up to the middle turnbuckle, but Orton shoves him into the ring post and down to the ringside floor. Orton suplexes Jeff onto the announce table before taking things back into the ring. Hardy comes back with a Whisper In The Wind, and both men are down. They get to their feet and trade blows until Jeff hits an inverted atomic drop and a dropkick. Jeff hits the Twist of Fate and then goes up top, but he wastes some time on his way up and Orton gets up and knocks him off the ropes. Orton sticks his finger through Jeff’s pierced ear again and then looks for a DDT, but Jeff escapes. Jeff tackles Orton and then stomps him below the belt, which earns him a DQ from the referee. Winner via DQ: Randy Orton
After the match, Hardy attacks Orton and sends him out of the ring. Fans chant “delete!” as Hardy unloads and tosses Orton over the announce table. Orton fights back but Hardy charges and drops him. Hardy sends Orton into the steel ring post and then tosses him over the barrier. Fans cheer as Hardy follows, beating Orton through the crowd. They brawl over near the production area now. Hardy with a steel chair over the back and a chair shot to the gut. Hardy with more chair shots to the back. Hardy places Orton on top of a table and then smacks him with a handheld camera. Hardy climbs to the top of a stack of production cases as fans cheer. Hardy leaps and puts Orton through the table with a Swanton Bomb. Hardy smiles as fans pop. Hardy stands tall as his music hits.
Commentary hypes up The SmackDown Tag Team Title Match for later on tonight as well as the fallout from Becky Lynch’s attack and Naomi’s return match against Peyton Royce, and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and we get a recap of what we just saw between Jeff Hardy & Randy Orton.
The Bar are interviewed backstage and they say that they want a shot at whoever comes out of the tag title match when the Club roll up to audition for the pre-show panel. Gallows does a faux English accent, Anderson shows his abs off, and they lay claim to being the next challengers for the tag champs themselves, and say that if The Bar have a problem with that they can have a wrestle. Cesaro then says that Ed Sheeran likes them better than The Club and next week they’re gonna kick their heads off, because they don’t just set the bar, they are The Bar.
We get entrances for Naomi vs. Peyton Royce and The IIconics want to play a guessing game during their entrance.
The IIconics asks the crowd in Brooklyn what’s overrated, loud, obnoxious and has flashing lights everywhere? Brooklyn! Or actually, that’s the answer to “What’s a dumpster fire?,” and Royce slowly realizes that Billie Kay is talking about Naomi and says that just like Brooklyn, Naomi is most definitely not iconic.
The match will begin after the commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and the match is underway.
Naomi vs. Peyton Royce: Naomi starts off strong with a series of kicks on Peyton. Naomi follows up with a leg drop for a two count. A distraction from ringside leads to Peyton hitting a cheap shot and knocking Naomi out to ringside. Back in the ring, Peyton beats on Naomi in the corner and chokes her with her boot. Peyton applies a chin lock until Naomi fights out. Peyton misses a kick and Naomi starts kicking her legs out. Naomi fires up with some kicks now, then she goes out to ringside and throws Billie into the ring post. Back in the ring, Peyton hits a fisherman’s suplex for the three count. Winner: Peyton Royce
After the match, The IIconics hit the ramp to celebrate as Naomi recovers in the ring.
We head backstage where indie wrestler CPA is a trainer taping Big E’s ribs up when the other two New Day members roll up to check on him. He’s eating ribs, so there’s a bit of confusion, but Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods say that they have things covered tonight and reiterate their history in Brooklyn and their conviction that they’re going to win the tag titles back tonight. Kofi wants to slap hands but Big E has a rib in his meaty paw and he settles for a fist bump.
Commentary sends us to a video package looking at the history between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, with Becky turning on Charlotte last Sunday at SummerSlam. We then get a look at Becky’s locker room door to send us to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and Becky Lynch makes her way down to the ring.
She starts by saying that she deserves to be standing here as Women’s Champion, and Charlotte Flair deserves the beating she gave her for taking that from her. Lynch then says that SummerSlam was supposed to be her time, she had fought her way for months and earned her way into a singles match against Carmella and had even gotten over Charlotte being added to the match because finally it was her opportunity to silence the critics who said she was just Flair’s friend.
Lynch then says that she pictured raising the title over her head as her own woman, saying that she put the SmackDown Women’s division on the map, and the fans act like they’re with her, but were they the whole time? There was no #GiveBeckyAChance and when Charlotte weaseled her way into the match there was no boycott, and when Flair stole the match from her they got out of their seats and applauded the new champion, so they weren’t really that upset, were they?
And somehow when anyone asks the WWE Universe who the greatest superstar of all time, Becky Lynch isn’t the first name out of our mouths and somehow she’s been made an afterthought. Lynch then says that come SummerSlam she had enough of opinions and decided to take action, because the referee slapping the mat for the third time was like someone counting her out of a trance and she never saw more clearly before in her life.
Lynch then says that she knew in that moment that her so-called best friend was holding her back and that Charlotte had stolen her spotlight for the last time, that she was going to raise her hand and rip her head off, because this was supposed to be her time to be champion, and not because we say it, but because she says it, and she’s the best, and there’s no one anywhere that can tell her different.
Charlotte Flair’s music hits. She rushes the ring and takes Lynch down for mounted punches. Lynch turns it around with punches of her own and they spill to the floor. Putting boots to the Queen, Becky tries to beat it over the barricade and Flair yanks her back in and throws her into the ring. Front kick into more punches, referees try to separate them and Paige brings the entire women’s division out to pull them apart.
Charlotte breaks free and gets her hands on Lynch again but they get pulled apart. Becky breaks away this time and again they get separated. Spear through the ropes. Charlotte off the apron into more punches as they try and pull them apart. We go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega make their way down to the ring.
They get a picture-in-picture promo where they question why Rusev Day wants this rematch given that they lose every time.
Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega vs. Rusev Day (Rusev & Lana) (Mixed Tag Team Match): Rusev and Almas start things off, and Almas slaps Rusev a couple of times. Rusev fires back and drops Almas. They fight into the corner where Almas takes control with a series of kicks to the body. Almas looks for a swinging reverse DDT, but Rusev blocks it. Almas puts Rusev in an arm bar over the top rope until the referee breaks it up. Almas comes flying off the top rope, but Rusev kicks him out of the air and then tags in Lana. Zelina comes in and Lana drops her then sends her out to ringside. Back in the ring, Zelina mounts a comeback and chokes Lana across the middle rope. Zelina and Lana trade pin attempts until Zelina grabs her by the hair and slams her down. Zelina charges at Lana in the corner, but Lana stops her with a boot to the face. Rusev gets the tag and Almas comes in, and Rusev levels him with a running shoulder block. Rusev follows up with a splash in the corner and then a spinning heel kick. Rusev misses a big boot and Almas hits a spinning back elbow and then a running knee strike in the corner for a two count. Almas looks for a DDT but Rusev fights out and clotheslines him out to ringside. Zelina comes in and shoves Rusev, then Lana comes in and takes her out. Almas tries to bring a steel chair in the ring, but Aiden English comes out of nowhere and grabs the chair. Almas turns around into a big boot from Rusev, and then Rusev locks in The Accolade for the win via submission. Winners: Rusev Day (Rusev & Lana)
After the match, Lana and Rusev stand tall as the music hits. English cheers them on. Rusev and Lana discuss English’s assistance as the camera cuts away.
We get a promo from Shinsuke Nakamura talking about the inscription on the Statue of Liberty and how he disposed the clown Jeff Hardy and deserves a coronation as the American hero he is, and he welcomes us to the United States of Nakamerica.

Back from the commercial break and we get some hype for The Tornado Tag Team Match between The Lucha House Party and the team of Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese for 205 Live immediately following SmackDown Live.
Commentary introduces a video package looking at the history between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, and then the finish of their SummerSlam Match.
AJ Styles makes his entrance and is interviewed on the stage. He hesitates to collect his thoughts about the end of his match at SummerSlam and admits that the match didn’t end how he wanted, but he doesn’t regret what he did to Samoa Joe. Styles then says that he lost the match because of his actions and he’s not proud of that, but Joe crossed a line that a real man doesn’t cross. Styles then says that he broke a promise, but let him make a promise to The WWE Universe and his family, one that he will not break – the next time Samoa mentions his family’s name, he’s gonna rip his heart out and show it. Joe yanks Styles off the stage and chokes him out with The Coquina Clutch. Samoa gets on the mic and calls AJ’s wife Wendy out and says that we’re making a lot of promises tonight, including one to go home and tuck in the kids, but guess what, daddy’s already gone night-night. Joe leaves AJ for dead and stands tall on the stage.
A recap of the opening segment between The Miz, Maryse, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella follows. Commentary hypes their Mixed Tag Team Match at Hell in a Cell.
We are informed that The SmackDown Tag Team Title rematch is up next and we go to a commercial break.
Back from the commercial break and General Manager Paige puts referee Drake Wuertz in charge of making sure AJ Styles gets appropriate medical attention.
Carmella rolls up on Paige and she tries to figure out what’s different before realizing that Carmella has lost some weight – ten pounds of gold, in fact. Carmella tells her not to title shame her and demands her rematch when R-Truth rolls up to complain that she’s been ducking him for weeks and he’s gonna get that title match by pinning her. Paige explains that just because Charlotte and Becky got their title match by pinning Carmella doesn’t mean he can do the same, and Truth leaves, saying she got lucky this time. Paige books the one-on-one rematch for next week and Carmella moonwalks away, but Paige has to yell at R-Truth to put her down.
We head to the ring for the main event of tonight’s SmackDown Live.

Rowan and Kofi fight into the ring now as Harper and Woods trade shots at ringside. Harper looks for a suplex, but Woods escapes and hits an elbow to the face, then he drops Harper face-first into the announce desk. Back in the ring, Kofi boots Rowan in the face and then dumps him outside. Kofi kicks Rowan from the apron and then he goes over to help Woods. The New Day grabs a ladder from under the ring and they slide on the mat. Rowan then grabs the New Day members from behind on the floor and holds them while Harper goes flying out of the ring with a suicide dive on them. The Champions throw a bunch of steel chairs in the ring, then they go back to beating on the New Day Members at ringside. Rowan hits a splash on Kofi up against the barricade, and then he whips him into a big boot from Harper. Woods gets back to his feet and boots Rowan in the head, but Rowan comes back with a running shoulder block. Back in the ring, Harper looks for a chair shot on Kofi, but Kofi kicks the chair in his face and then hits a facebuster for a two count. Rowan pulls Kofi out to ringside and boots him down, then he elbows Woods in the face. Back in the ring, Rowan starts unfolding the chairs, and then they lay the ladder across the two unfolded chairs. The Bludgeon Brothers go to do the double chokeslam on to the ladder, but Kofi comes flying off the top rope to break it up. The Bludgeon Brothers grab Kofi and hit the double chokeslam on the ladder on Kofi instead, but they only get a two count. Rowan goes out to ringside now and gets a table and puts it in the ring. Rowan and Harper then beat down Kofi at ringside, and then Rowan gets his mallet and hands it to Rowan. Harper slaps Rowan across the face, and Rowan asks him to slap him a couple more times.
