The Rock Returning Soon, Impact Star Joining Mae Young Classic?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s career in the wrestling industry is largely behind him now. His career as an actor has taken off over the past few years, and although he has returned to the ring for matches and appearances over the years, scheduling conflicts have prevented him from adding on to his WWE career recently. The Rock’s last official match took place at WrestleMania 32 when he managed to defeat Erick Rowan in seconds, but Johnson did tell WWE’s Cathy Kelley that he could not wait to get back in the ring again soon during the recent premiere of his film Skyscraper. Fortunately for fans of “The Great One,” it sounds like Johnson is serious about coming back for another match in the near future.
According to a report given in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, talks have indicated that The Rock is indeed very much interested in coming back to WWE for a match at WrestleMania 35 next year. WWE reportedly tried to get Dwayne Johnson to return for a tag team match that would have seen him team up with Ronda Rousey to fight Stephanie McMahon and Triple H at WrestleMania earlier this year, but Johnson’s busy Hollywood schedule resulted in the company choosing Kurt Angle to serve as Rousey’s partner instead. Raw’s Elias has been teasing a possible match against The Rock on social media as of late, but there is no word on whether or not he is the front runner to face The Rock if he does decide to come back next year.
Madison Rayne has competed for Impact Wrestling on and off again since 2009, and she has definitely achieved a lot during her runs with the promotion. Not only is she a 5-time Knockouts Champion, but she has also held the Knockouts Tag Team Championship on two different occasions. Could Rayne be moving on to WWE next? The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter says that Rayne’s loss to Su Yung at Slammiversary this past weekend was done to write her off of TV. Rayne is not scheduled for any of the upcoming Impact TV tapings, and she is now rumored to be taking part in WWE’s Mae Young Classic tournament on this August. This development comes after Rayne attended a WWE tryout late last year.
