Michael Hayes Wants Cena vs. Reigns for Wrestlemania

On the latest episode of the WWE Network’s show Table for 3, the guests were Jim Cornette, Eric Bischoff, and Michael Hayes. The much talked about episode that was taped shortly after Wrestlemania weekend last April, capped off with Hayes asking what match each person wanted for Wrestlemania. Cornette said that he wanted Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe in a submission match, while Eric said he thought Roman Reigns would find his inner heel and face A.J. Styles. Hayes, who is still a writer and creative force in the WWE mentioned that he wanted Reigns and John Cena at next year’s Maina with this explanation:
It’s somewhat of the Cena dynamic and what I mean by that is, especially at live events, the kids like him, the girls like him. You hear that high-pitched positive vibe. Then, you hear the negative vibe from the men, the deeper voices. But eventually, when he hits his finish and he wins, everybody pops. and we always thought we should’ve turned Cena, but this guy has gone longer than anybody. Think about that. Anybody with that much consistency, with that much longevity on top, and still works that hard and still loves this business.
Of course, this is very informal and may not represent the feeling within the company or Vince McMahon himself. While certainly not impossible, Cena and Reigns are the top dogs of different brands and would most likely be pitted against heel (or who Vince thinks are heels more accurately) of their own respective shows.
