Gauntlet eliminator match to decide Balor's NXT TakeOver challenger
WWE has revealed how Finn Balor’s NXT TakeOver challenger will be decided.
The first-ever “gauntlet eliminator” match will take place on NXT next Wednesday. The winner will challenge for Balor’s NXT Championship at TakeOver on Sunday, October 4.
The gauntlet eliminator will feature five wrestlers, though the participants for the match haven’t been revealed. The rules for the match are:
Two wrestlers will start in the ring
Every four minutes, another wrestler will enter
The only way to be eliminated is via pinfall or submission
The last man standing will become the number one contender to the NXT Championship and challenge Balor at TakeOver
Balor became the new NXT Champion by defeating Adam Cole last week. The title had been declared vacant after Karrion Kross suffered a separated shoulder during the match where he won the championship from Keith Lee at TakeOver XXX. A four-way Iron Man match between Balor, Cole, Johnny Gargano, and Tommaso Ciampa was supposed to decide the new champion two weeks ago, but it ended in a two-way tie between Balor and Cole. That set up last week’s Balor vs. Cole title match.
In addition to the gauntlet eliminator, next Wednesday’s NXT will feature a number one contender’s battle royal to decide NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai’s challenger for TakeOver. Ciampa vs. Jake Atlas has also been announced for the episode.
