Backstage News on IC Title Change; Miz in Line for Significant Push

— Monday’s Raw 25 saw one title change with The Miz defeating Roman Reigns clean in the middle of the ring to capture the Intercontinental title. This led to some online rumors suggesting that WWE had Reigns drop the title as “punishment” for the recent story making its way around implying that Reigns was a client of a convinced drug dealer.

— According to sources, this is completely false and the decision to have Miz win the IC title back was planned well in advance of the Reigns story coming out. In fact, WWE officials see the entire situation as a non-story and Reigns is still scheduled to move onto WrestleMania to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal title.

— Apart from wanting Reigns to drop the IC title so he doesn’t go into WrestleMania as a champion, one of the big reasons for moving the title onto Miz is reportedly due to the expectation that Miz is in line for a major push over the next few months, leading to a significant match at WrestleMania in April. Add to that, the upcoming “Miz & Mrs.” reality show that is likely going to air later this year on USA network is another reason why WWE want Miz in the spotlight.
