Finn Balor returned to the ring and kicked off 2021 by retaining his NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil.

A rematch of NXT’s 2020 Match of the Year headlined last night’s show as Balor again retained the NXT Championship against Kyle O’Reilly. It was the first time Balor has wrestled since breaking his jaw during his match against O’Reilly at TakeOver 31 in October.

WWE announced a storyline update after last night’s match: “BREAKING: After that grueling main event, both @FinnBalor & @KORcombat are on their way to the hospital. Kyle is getting his jaw x-rayed and Finn is getting his arm checked out. #NXTNYE”

Raquel Gonzalez also began the year with a big win as she defeated Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match. Plus, Karrion Kross defeated Damian Priest, Santos Escobar retained the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Gran Metalik, Xia Li made her return in dominant fashion, and Kushida & Shotzi Blackheart teamed together to defeat Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae.
