Mauro Ranallo On the Origin of His ‘Bipolar’ Nickname, His Movie Possibly Having a Negative Impact On His Career

WWE NXT announcer Mauro Ranallo recently spoke with MMA Junkie to promote his new movie “Bipolar Rock ‘N Roller”, and you can listen to the entire interview in the above video player. Below are some interview highlights via MMAJunkie.com.

On his nickname, the “Bipolar Rock ‘N Roller”:

“I’ve always been an advocate for mental health,” Ranallo said. “I gave myself the nickname ‘Bipolar Rock ‘N Roller’ way back in the 1990s, when – as much as we don’t talk about mental health now – back then it was almost nonexistent. And if it was broached, it was done in a very pejorative way. …

“The fact that we are losing so many people to suicide because of a stigma, I’ve looked at the chandeliers in a hospital and the light fixtures wondering if it could hold my weight. I know the feeling.”

On how ‘bearing his soul’ in his new movie might have a negative impact on his career:

“I don’t mind being the proverbial canary in the coal mine,” said Ranallo. “I don’t even mind being a casualty. If this were to cost me some work, so be it.

“Thankfully, Showtime, WWE, Paramount Network, all of my media friends – the amount of feedback I’ve received? First, it’s humbling. I’ve got goosebumps. But the support, the fact that so many people are saying, ‘We need this now.’”
