PSG €5m short of Newcastle’s Hugo Ektike bid but player wants Paris
As reported by L’Équipe, Reims’ 20-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike has told his club he only plans to join PSG this summer despite strong interest from Newcastle United and a deal being agreed between all parties for a move to the English side.
Contrary to earlier reports of a €27m offer from Paris, the sports daily report PSG have instead offered €25m plus €5m in bonuses for the player, an offer which Reims rejected as Newcastle had already agreed a deal of €30m plus €5m in bonuses for the Frenchman, which Paris are determined not to match. With the player aiming for a move to Paris, Reims are now under pressure to either allow Ekitike to join PSG for a lower fee or stand firm over the Newcastle amount – which other outlets report could be as much as €46m in total.
Bayern Munich were the favourites to sign the player at the end of last season with West Ham making a €25m offer in January. PSG’s interest, now much more certain according to the French press, was originally described as overblown by Le Parisien, who suggested it was used to drive up the price.
