Italian entrepreneur to resurrect Vionnet
As Milan Fashion Week gets underway, Matteo Marzotto, a member of the Italian textiles dynasty, has announced his acquisition of Vionnet, one of the most influential names in French fashion. The first collection under the new ownership will be presented in June and includes both ready-to-wear and accessories. It will be designed by Rodolfo Paglialunga who, prior to Vionnet, spent 13 years as a designer of womenswear at Prada, and the previous four years at Romeo Gigli.
“I am convinced there is always room for projects that have at their core originality, energy and passion,” said Marzotto. “With Vionnet I would like to bring back to life an idea of fashion that is contemporary without forgetting its history; reinvigorating the extraordinary and innovative elegance that marked Madeleine Vionnet’s work; expressing the true meaning of European culture and its ability to create and enjoy beautiful things and important values.”
Marzotto has been president of Enit – the Italian State Tourist Board – since August last year, but is also an entrepreneur in the fashion and luxury goods sector. He worked for 15 years in various capacities for his family’s companies and, between 2003 and 2008, worked for Valentino SpA, first as general manager, and later as president.
For his new venture, an “independent and autonomous structure” has been created by Marzotto and he is the sole owner of the Vionnet brand. Additional strategic development will be provided by Marzotto’s longtime friend Gianni Castiglioni.
