Official | Rennes sign Diafra Sakho from West Ham

Stade Rennais have officially announced the signing of West Ham forward Diafra Sakho, who has signed on a two-and-a-half-year-deal for an undisclosed fee, believed to be worth around €10m.

Sakho had been close to joining Rennes in the summer, but they couldn’t agree a fee with West Ham for his signature, despite the Senegalese striker completing his medical and agreeing personal terms.

“I am very happy to join Rennes and Ligue 1,” said Sakho. “I never wanted to join another club other than Rennes. The President (Olivier Letang) has worked hard to sign me. I felt it and his words convinced me to join the club. It is a historic club, structured with great ambitions.”

“I also spoke with the coach (Sabri Lamouchi) and talked about the sports project. It is a great joy and with great pride that I join Stade Rennais. I hope to bring my qualities to the group and participate in the success of the club in the second half of the season and for the next few years.”

Club President Létang went on to say “I am very happy with Diafra’s return to France and especially with us here at Rennes. The return of a Premier League player is a never a simple thing. There were many interested clubs in different countries and not only in England or Ligue 1 so the commitment of Diafra demonstrates the attractiveness of our project and our ambition.”

“We will do everything to ensure that Diafra’s integration into our team is fast and efficient so that Diafra brings all it’s qualities to our team.”
