St Étienne narrow their manager search to 6 names

St Étienne continue to work diligently to find a replacement for Christophe Galtier, who announced that he would be leaving the club after 8years at the helm.

Four of those six have been revealed byL’Équipe:

Fabio Celestini, the 41-year-old manager of Lausanne in Switzerland, who has in recent hours taken pole position for the role after constructive discussions over the course of the last 24 hours.

Antoine Kombouaré, the EA Guingamp boss, was the number one priority, but EAG intend to retain his services for at least one more season and Les Verts appear to have all but given up on pursuing the former PSG and RC Lens manager.

The other two names that have filtered through are Paul Le Guen and Eric Roy, individuals who have been out of work for sometime and on the French managerial marketplace for several months.

Two meetings have occurred with Éric Roy, one in President Bernard Caiazzo’s Paris office eight days ago and again on Tuesday.

Paul Le Guen met with St Étienne representatives in midweek in Monaco following Les Verts’ 2-0 loss to the Principality side in a match that clinched ASM the title.

The following day, the Thursday, Les Verts reps met with Fabio Celestini, a little known manager on both a European and French level who has the backing of several high-profile St Étienne board members. Celestini’s only contact with French football was a two year stint as a player at ESTAC Troyes between 2000-2002 and period with Marseille which saw him captain the side until 2004.

During his meeting with St Étienne reps, Celestini is believed to have accepted to come without any other staff, a cost effective option for the Ligue 1 side, especially as St Étienne would have to buy Celestini out of his final two years of his contract with Lausanne.
