The tyre supplier has picked the supersoft, soft and medium tyres for the high-speed Monza circuit, with the race taking place a week after the Belgian Grand Prix in early September. It marks the first time the supersoft will have been used at Monza, with Pirelli having opted for the medium and soft compounds last year after three consecutive races using the hard and medium tyres.
Drivers each receive 13 sets of tyres for a race weekend, and have complete freedom to pick ten of the sets from the available compounds. Of the other three sets, Pirelli has nominated one set of supersoft tyres as mandatory to be used in Q3, while one set of mediums and one set of softs must be available for the race, of which only one set must be used.
The deadline for the team selections is eight weeks in advance of the race itself for European races, while the selections most be made 14 weeks in advance of flyaway rounds.
Pirelli has previously selected the same three compounds for eight other races this season, with Monza ending a run of four grands prix – also including Hungary, Germany and Belgium – during which the supersoft, soft and medium tyres will be used.
