Update: James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Script Will Be Used

Update 2/22: Reported by CinemaBlend, Marvel Cinematic Universe head Kevin Feige confirmed that James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 draft will be used for the film, despite Gunn being removed as director.

Feige said to CinemaBlend, “[Gunn’s] influence was Guardians. It was Guardians. It was his input on Guardians and the Avengers films, as you’ve seen in Infinity War, and on the Guardians 3 script, which we’re still using. So you’ll see that influence.”

It remains to be seen how much of his original script will stay intact once a new director comes on board, but it appears Gunn’s influence will remain with the film regardless.

The original story follows:

Chris Pratt says that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will work off of James Gunn’s script.

In an interview with MTV News, Pratt is asked if the people involved with the film are working off of Gunn’s script and if he’s read it, to which he responds “Yeah I have. It’s off the chain. It’s so good. It’s so good.”

Later in the interview, when asked about making the movie without Gunn as the director, Pratt says “I love James. I’m loyal to James and I love him so much. And we’re gonna deliver the movie, we’re gonna give the fans what they deserve. And I think it’s in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy to come together and get the job done. And that’s what we’ll do.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally going to be directed by Gunn, though he was removed from the project last year after inappropriate tweets surfaced. Production on the movie has been put on hold as Disney searches for a new director.

Vice director Adam McKay was allegedly approached to make the film, though it appears he’s not officially involved. Recently, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi says he definitely won’t be directing the film, saying it’s Gunn’s movie, and that it would be awkward for him to take over.

Reports indicate that Gunn will write and possibly direct a Suicide Squad reboot for DC.
