5 Minors Accused Of Fatally Shooting Nashville Musician: Police

NASHVILLE, TN — Police have charged five juveniles accused of shooting and killing a local musician outside of his home in Nashville.

According to police, Kyle Yorlets, 24, was able to go back inside his house after being shot Thursday afternoon. Yorlets was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after one of his housemates found him indoors at 3 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Yorlets was a singer and songwriter for the band “Carverton.” Originally from Pennsylvania, he attended college at Belmont University. Police said he also worked at a restaurant. A GoFundMe page set up to assist Yorlets’ parents says that they are dairy farmers in Pennsylvania.

“On February 7, 2019 we lost our brother, best friend, and bandmate Kyle Yorlets,” the band said in a statement posted to Facebook. “We are in a state of shock and are having to grasp the reality that is now in front of us. We are heartbroken. Our condolences for his family and loved ones and all the lives that he touched. We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon his legacy is here to stay.

“We thank you for your support and will talk to you soon.”

Police said that the five juveniles they have charged were in a stolen pickup truck in the alley behind Yorlets’ house on Torbett Street. Police say the juveniles interacted with Yorlets after seeing him outside.

The juveniles are accused of taking Yorlets’ wallet and ultimately demanding that he give them his car keys, according to police.

Police said it is believed that Yorlets was shot after he refused to give up his car keys.

The pickup truck was recovered early Thursday evening on Timberland Drive, according to police.

Police say they then obtained information that the juveniles had traveled to the Walmart on Charlotte Pike in West Nashville where they were apprehended.

The juveniles charged in the case are between the ages of 12-16. All five juveniles are charged with criminal homicide, police said.

Police said they recovered a stolen pistol from the group of minors, a second stolen pistol from inside the store and the car that they traveled to the Walmart in, which cops said had been stolen from Brentwood.
