Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Rankings
EDMOND, Okla. — Notre Dame (Ohio) finished its season-long stint as the No. 1 team in the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings Wednesday when the Falcons were the unanimous pick in the final poll by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
NDC received all eight first-place votes and finished with 160 points in balloting of head coaches from around the country to keep the top ranking for the eighth consecutive time. The Falcons won the East Super Regional title last week in qualifying a tournament-high nine individuals for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, set for March 14-15 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Two-time defending national champion and Central Super Regional winner Nebraska-Kearney earned all eight second-place votes and stayed No. 2 in the poll with 152 points. Central Super Regional runner-up Lindenwood (Mo.) jumped from eighth to third with 134 points, while Midwest Super Regional champion Indianapolis (Ind.) moved from 14th to fourth and West Regional winner Western State (Colo.) from 12th to fifth.
Rounding out the top 10 is St. Cloud State (Minn.), Newberry (S.C.), Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.), McKendree (Ill.) and Fort Hays State (Kan.).
NDC and UNK each have two top-ranked individuals — 165-pounder Eric Burgey and 174-pounder Joey Davis for the Falcons, 133-pounder Daniel DeShazer and 197-pounder Romero Cotton for the Lopers.
