Dusty Classic winners to challenge for NXT Tag titles at TakeOver

The Dusty Cup won’t be the only thing on the line in Wednesday’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals.

During Worlds Collide, it was announced that the team that wins this year’s Dusty Classic will also get an NXT Tag Team title shot at TakeOver: Portland. The Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish are the current NXT Tag Team Champions.

Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne are facing The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) in the Dusty Classic finals on this coming Wednesday’s episode of NXT.

Riddle & Dunne defeated Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster in the first round of the tournament and Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) in the semifinals.

The Grizzled Young Veterans advanced to the finals by defeating Alex Shelley & Kushida in the first round and O’Reilly & Fish in the semifinals. Their win against O’Reilly & Fish came after a distraction by Imperium.

Samoa Joe & Finn Balor, The Authors of Pain, Undisputed Era (Adam Cole & O’Reilly), and Aleister Black & Ricochet are the teams that have won the Dusty Classic in previous years.

Finn Balor vs. Johnny Gargano is also set for TakeOver: Portland, and Bianca Belair will challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship. The show is taking place at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, February 16.
