Georgia Republican runs first runoff election TV ad
Karen Handel, the Republican candidate in Georgia’s high-profile special House election, released her first televised campaign ad in the runoff Tuesday, touting her longtime record and experience in serving Georgian families.
“I’ve been involved in the 6th District for almost 25 years — from my time as Fulton County Commission chairman and as secretary of State, and even from my time as president of the Chamber of Commerce,” Handel says at the start of the ad.
“We just love this community, it’s home for us. To be able to do good for the people in this district who are not just constituents to me, they friends to Steve and I. It would be extraordinary and a real privilege,” she added.

Handel will face off with Democrat Jon Ossoff on June 20 in the race to fill Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price’s seat, in an election that has become a chance for Democrats to strike an early blow against President Trump.
With national parties and outside groups pouring money into the race, it’s become the most expensive House campaign in history.
While Price was regularly elected to the stalwart Republican seat by double-digit margins, Trump won the seat by less than two percentage points.
In April’s all-party “jungle” primary, Ossoff fell just short of the 50 percent needed to win the historically red district outright.
Ossoff’s chances could be boosted by a judge’s ruling that extends voter registration to May 21. Handel accused Democrats last week of a “partisan attempt to change the rules” by seeking the ruling.
“This lawsuit should be seen for exactly what it is: A partisan attempt to change the rules in the middle of an election for a nakedly partisan outcome,” Handel wrote in fundraising email last Monday, urging supporters to “fight back against the Democrats’ latest trick to deceive this election.”
