CM Punk debuts on AEW Rampage, taking on Darby Allin at All Out
In one of the most emotional moments in pro wrestling history, CM Punk returned to a wrestling ring, debuting at the kickoff of AEW Rampage in his home city of Chicago, Illinois.
Punk also has his first match set as he will face Darby Allin at the All Out pay-per-view on Sunday, September 5th.
Emerging to “Cult of Personality,” a visibly moved Punk waited on the stage as the sold-out crowd cheered him on in his first appearance since the 2014 WWE Royal Rumble.
Thanking the fans for being patient, apologized if any of his choices let the fans down and said that he heard the chants for his name the past seven years, but knew he was never going to get healthy spiritually or mentally staying in the same place that got him sick in the first place.

He said that he has a lot to say and wasn’t going to get to it all Friday, but for Wednesday, Fridays, four Sundays and four Saturdays a year, “I got the time and I ain’t going anywhere.”
Later taking off his sweatshirt and sitting cross-legged in the ring, Punk explained that he now knew why he cried so much when he left Ring of Honor in August 13, 2005. He said there, he helped create a place where people could come work, get paid, learn, and love professional wrestling. He knew when he left, it wasn’t going to be easy for a guy like him and that he is just like the fans.
“On August 13, 2005, I left professional wrestling. On August 20, 2021, I’m back and I’m back for you.”
He talked about wanting to work with the young talents, many of which he wishes he was surrounded by ten years ago. He said they are here now and here he is, so why not work with them now, adding he has some scores to settle in the locker room.
He then called out Allin, who was with Sting in the stands. He said Allin was good and like everyone in Chicago, Allin was tough. But Allin is first on Punk’s list and “nothing you can do is more dangerous than wrestling CM Punk…except wrestling CM Punk in Chicago. I will see you at All Out on September 5th.”
He then told fans that on the way out of the United Center, grab a free ice cream bar on him.
As Punk came out, AEW tweeted that “CM Punk is #AllElite.”
